Golf Courses with a Hotel
Best Value & Seaside: Old Course
Old Course is a seaside course (actually, two courses) that is adjacent to the beach and port in Mandelieu-la-Napoule (in the gorgeous Esterel red-rock region, about 20 minutes from Cannes). The course is unique in that it has two rivers running through it which you cross via a ferry. It has with a charming colombage clubhouse and a restaurant with several beautiful terraces, one which feels like a treehouse.
This 177-acre golf course was first underwritten by the exiled Grand Duke Michael of Oroszország in 1891. Famed British golf course architect Henry Colt designed the first 9-hole course, known today as the “Grand Duke.” In the late twentieth century, a second 18-hole course, named the “Old Course” was extended north across the La Siagne river.
The Old Course is also only a stone’s-throw from many restaurants, including the charming restaurant / tea house L’Oasis Comptoir Gourmand and its sister restaurant, Le Bistrot de L’Oasis whose terrace overlooks the river.
The Old Course is adjacent to three hotels: the charming riverside Hôtel Ermitage de l’Oasis , the mega-resort Pullman Cannes Mandelieu Royal Casino , and the budget 3-star Appart’ Hotel . Green fees are €50 to €90. Phone: +33492973200
A 5-minute drive or 30-minute walk inland from the Old Course is another course — the very hilly Riviera Golf de Barbossi . Their website advertises many amenities, like a hotel and organic wine-tasting cave , but these are all a short drive away (and not a very pleasant walk), next to Old Course. There is only one restaurant on the premises, L’Arbre Jaune , which is charming, but closes at 3pm. The course has a stream and several ponds, and they offer golf lessons for both kids and adults. It is associated with horse-riding stables and nearby paddle and tennis courts . Green fees are €75. Phone: +33492974646
If choosing between the two, we recommend the Old Course due to its proximity to hotels, the sea, and multiple restaurants. Once you’ve played that course and are looking for something new, then take a 5-minute cab inland to the Riviera Golf de Barbossi.
