Iconic Riviera publishes travel guides to the French Riviera and Monaco, sells memberships to the Insider Club, and works with a small number of brand partners. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use iconicriviera.com, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. The site is owned and operated by Iconic Riviera LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company that operates from Monaco, and you can reach us at any time at hello@iconicriviera.com.
What we collect
There are two kinds of information here, and they arrive in very different ways.
- Information you give us. Your name and email address when you subscribe to the newsletter or open an Insider Club account; your billing details when you buy a membership; and whatever you choose to put in a message when you contact us or ask about advertising.
- Information we receive automatically. Your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you look at and the site that sent you to us. This arrives in our host’s server logs and is used to keep the site running, fast and secure.
We do not ask for, and would rather not receive, sensitive information such as health data, government identifiers, or anything about your politics or religion.
The newsletter
Our newsletter is published through Substack. When you subscribe, your email address is held by Substack on our behalf, and Substack’s own privacy policy applies to it alongside this one. We use the list to send the monthly newsletter and the occasional note about member news, and for nothing else. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
Insider Club memberships and payments
Memberships are sold through SureCart and charged by Stripe or PayPal, depending on which you choose at the checkout. Those companies collect your card or account details directly. Those details never reach our website, and we never see or store a full card number. What we do keep is a record of what you bought, when you bought it, and the email address attached to the account, because we need that to give you access and to meet our accounting and tax obligations. Access to member-only guides is managed by SureMembers, which records which areas of the site your account may open.
Advertising and brand partnerships
If you enquire about advertising or a brand partnership, we keep your name, your business name, your email address, and the correspondence itself, so that we can reply and, if we end up working together, invoice you and keep a record of the campaign. We do not sell or rent that information, and we do not quietly add business contacts to the consumer newsletter.
Cookies and similar technologies
The site sets a small number of cookies: ones that remember which language you are reading in, ones that keep you signed in and keep your cart and membership working, and ones our host uses to protect the site from attack. We also use Google Analytics cookies, which count visits and tell us which guides get read. We do not run advertising cookies or cross-site trackers. Our Cookie Policy goes through them one by one.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is being read: which guides people open, how they found us, roughly which country or region they are in, and what kind of device they are on. Google acts as our service provider for this and sets its own cookies to do it. Our measurement id is G-0PSK38ZVCD.
We have not switched on Google Signals or ads personalisation, we do not use the data for advertising, and we do not sell it or share it with anyone else. Google truncates visitors’ IP addresses, and we never pass it your name, your email address or anything else that identifies you personally. Google is a US company and may process the data outside Europe, under the standard contractual clauses described further down this page. If you would rather not be counted, you can block the analytics cookies in your browser or install Google’s opt-out add-on; the site works in exactly the same way either way. Apart from Google Analytics we run no analytics or advertising trackers at all.
Embedded content from other sites
Our guides sometimes embed videos, maps and sign-up forms from other services, YouTube, Vimeo and Substack among them. An embed behaves as though you had visited that other site: the provider can see your IP address and may set its own cookies. We use the more privacy-friendly embed option wherever a service offers one, but we cannot control what a provider does, and its policy governs that part of the page.
Hosting, security and where your information goes
The site is hosted by Rocket.net and delivered through its content delivery network, so a request for a page may be answered by a server in any of a number of countries, including the United States. Our newsletter, payment and membership providers are United States companies too. Where personal information about people in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area leaves those regions, we rely on the standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards that those providers publish.
Translation
Pages are translated with TranslatePress, which keeps its translations on our own server. Choosing a language sets a cookie so we remember your preference. No personal information leaves the site in order to translate a page.
How long we keep things
- Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe.
- Membership and purchase records are kept while the account is open, and then for as long as tax law requires us to keep them.
- Enquiries and correspondence are kept for two years, unless they turn into a working relationship.
- Server logs are short-lived and are overwritten in the normal course of things.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- show you the personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy of it;
- correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
- delete it, unless we are obliged to keep it for legal or accounting reasons;
- stop or narrow what we do with it, or object to a particular use;
- send it to you, or to another service, in a portable format;
- withdraw a consent you have given us, such as your newsletter subscription.
Write to hello@iconicriviera.com and we will answer within one month. There is no charge. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area and our answer does not satisfy you, you are entitled to complain to your national data protection authority.
If you are in California
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We have not done either in the past twelve months, and that includes information about anyone under sixteen. California residents may also ask what we have collected, ask us to delete or correct it, and are entitled not to be treated any differently for having asked. Children
This site is written for adults planning a journey, and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has given us their details, tell us and we will remove them.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we change the date at the top. If a change materially affects what we do with information we already hold, we will say so on the site, or by email, before it takes effect.
