Un fraudator și micul lui castel

Le Grande Jardin este singura reședință privată de pe insulele Lerins. Situl este una dintre ultimele bijuterii ale Coastei de Azur care este protejată de urbanizare.

Proprietatea și Castelul

Proprietatea existentă este formată dintr-un vast spațiu verde numit Grădina Regelui unde se află Casa Guvernatorului, Casa Métayers și La Tour. Casa insulară palatioasă are 17 dormitoare, un cinema, heliport privat și chiar propriul club de noapte. De asemenea, are mai multe vile, o piscină mare, grădini și un mic castel pe proprietate. Întregul este protejat de un zid înconjurător construit la ordinul Cardinalul Richelieu.

Diferitele clădiri au fost construite între secolul al XII-lea și al XVII-lea și, până de curând, au avut doar proprietari istorici, din monahii din Lérins Regelui Franței, Ludovic al 14-lea, prin Ducele de Guise or the Governor of Provence but also the mayor of Marseille, after the Revolution.

Fraudatorul

În 2008, a fost achiziționat pentru aproximativ 40 de milioane de euro, printr-un împrumut bancar pe care el a rămas în neregulă, de către magnatul de afaceri indian. Vijay Mallya. Since then, Mallya has become a fugitive and is the subject of an extradition effort by the Indian Government to return him from the UK to face charges of financial crimes in India.

Mallya, who was known as the “King of Good Times” in India, was arrested in London in April 2017 for defrauding at least 17 Indian banks of billions of dollars, drawing loans that he intended to default on, using his now defunct airline as collateral. He allegedly routed this money into personal assets and to gain full or partial stake in about 40 companies abroad.

The Sale

Zece ani mai târziu, după ce fraudatorul a cumpărat-o, în 2018, proprietatea a fost din nou scoasă pe piață, cerând 45 de milioane de euro. Vânzarea către Colecția Ultima (a 5-star hotelier) was finalized on July 1, 2020. It was sold discreetly “at the bar of the commercial court as part of a legal settlement” and without the knowledge of the municipality, according to the town hall of Cannes. Even DVF didn’t publish the sale price.

“This is the umpteenth cession of this site and (it) has always been closed to the public,” Mayor LR David Lisnard said. “There will be no hotel!”, he assured, recalling that the local urban plan prohibited it.

In the end, the property was kept private and is being rented as a private vacation rental. Renovări majore were carried out and the villa now has 12 bedrooms in total, with suites in the Governor’s House and The Tower, as well multiple indoor and outdoor dining areas serving farm-to-table dishes, an organically-filtered, heated outdoor pool, an open-air cinema and a spa.
